They text: im bored
Every name and message on this page is made up. Use the replies as starting points, not scripts; no wording guarantees how someone will answer.
Why they told you
- They want your attention
- Not anyone’s. Yours. Especially if they texted first.
- They’re fishing for a hangout
- “i’m bored” is safer than “want to hang out?” because it can’t really be turned down.
- They need a distraction
- Studying, stuck at work, waiting at an airport. Any entertainment will do.
- Late-night bored
- Close to a midnight “wyd,” and it can be flirty. More on that in how to respond to “u up?”.
If there’s an ask attached (“im bored entertain me”), they’re handing you the mic. A flat “im bored” at 2pm on a workday usually wants a distraction more than a deep talk.
What to reply
Entertain them
You: ok bored person. you get one question to ask me and i have to answer honestly. choose wisely
You: describe your day as a movie trailer. go
You: skill issue. but fine, what’s the most unhinged thing you did this week
Flirty
You: bored and you picked me to tell. i’m honored ngl
You: sounds like a you problem. but i could be convinced to fix it
Make a plan
You: come get boba then. i’m 10 min away
Busy
You: i’d save you but i’m drowning in laundry. tomorrow?
Not interested
You: go find a good show! i’m heading to bed
What not to send
- “same” Two bored people, zero conversation.
- “go do something then” You just told them you’re not the something.
- “what do you want me to do about it” Even as a joke, it reads like you’re annoyed they texted.
- A list of activity ideas They wanted company, not a brochure.
Rehearse it first
Want to see whether your “one question” game would land with this particular person? Pretake can import your chat and let you try it on an AI that texts like them, then rewind and test the plan instead.
Try Pretake on iPhoneAI practice, not the real person: practice replies are possibilities, not predictions, and nothing is sent to them.
